Originally known as the Harlem Stars, the New York Black Yankees played their first game in 1932. They spent their early years on baseball’s barnstorming circuit before officially joining the Negro National League in 1936. On loan from the Kansas City Monarchs, the great Satchel Paige pitched a game for the Black Yankees in 1941. Fellow Hall of Famers George “Mule” Suttles and Willie Wells would star for the club, along with Negro League legends like Clarence “Fats” Jenkins and Ted “Double Duty” Radcliffe.
